A Christiana man’s search for love
When Brad first met Jenni, he knew she was the one. Jenni is a lovely Christiana woman who loves spending time with her family, friends, and animals. She also enjoys reading, playing the piano, and going on walks. Jenni is the perfect match for Brad, who is not into sports or other traditionally male activities.
Why he decided to look for love at weddings
Christiannos Pizzolito had all but given up on love. The 33-year-old Saddle Brook resident had been dogged by bad luck with women for years. He had just come out of a long-term relationship and was jaded by the dating scene. So when a friend suggested he try looking for love at weddings, he was hesitant at first.
“I never really thought about it before, but it made sense,” he said. “Weddings are full of single people who are there to celebrate love. What better place to find someone special?”
Pizzolito took his friend’s advice and started attending weddings solo. He would dress up in a dapper suit or dress and hit the dance floor, making sure to talk to as many people as possible. It was at one of these weddings that he met his now-girlfriend, Ashley Morales.
“We just clicked,” Pizzolito said of their first meeting. “It was like we had known each other for years.”
The two have been together for nearly nine months now and are planning on getting married themselves next year. Pizzolito says he’s glad he took his friend’s advice and found love in an unexpected place.
How he found the perfect match for him
It all started when he realized he didn’t like sports. He was never really into them and found them quite boring. This made it difficult to find a partner who shared his interests. He was beginning to think that he would never find the right match for him.
That is until he attended a friend’s wedding. It was there that he met a woman who changed his life. She was also not into sports and found them just as boring as he did. They bonded over their shared love of non-sports related activities and have been together ever since.
If you’re struggling to find someone who shares your interests, don’t give up hope. You never know where you’ll meet your perfect match.
What made him realize that she was the one
On their first date, John remembers that Carly told him that she didn’t really like sports. He was relieved because he himself isn’t really into sports either. From then on, he knew that Carly was the one for him.
Why he believes that love can be found in the most unexpected places
Thomas Hickey wasn’t looking for love when he attended his first wedding as a groomsman. In fact, he’s not even into sports. But that didn’t stop him from finding his perfect match at the event.
“I’ve never been a big sports fan, but I’ve always loved weddings,” said Hickey, who is from Christiana. “I think there’s something special about the excitement and joy that comes with celebrating a couple’s love.”
And it was at one of these weddings that Hickey met his now-wife Stephanie. The two were seated at the same table and struck up a conversation. They soon discovered that they had a lot in common, including their shared love of travel and adventure.
“We bonded over our shared love of exploring new places and experiencing new things,” said Hickey. “It was amazing to find someone who was so compatible with me.”
The two married in 2017 and have been happy together ever since. Hickey says that attending weddings has become one of his favorite things to do, and he’s even started planning his own wedding business.
“I’m so grateful to have found my perfect match through weddings,” said Hickey. “It just goes to show that love can be found in the most unexpected places.”
What he has learned from his experience
Since he started working as a wedding photographer, Christiana man Michael Joseph has learned a lot about what couples are looking for on their big day.
“I’ve shot weddings of all shapes and sizes, but I’ve found that the one thing all couples have in common is that they want to look back on their wedding photos and feel like they’re reliving the best day of their lives,” says Joseph.
For Joseph, that’s what it’s all about.
“I love being able to capture those special moments that couples will cherish forever,” he says. “It’s such a privilege to be a part of someone’s most important day.”
How his story can inspire others
When it comes to wedding planning, most grooms just want to be involved enough to help with the big decisions and then let their bride-to-be take care of the rest. But for Christiana man Michael Stoltzfus, he found himself much more invested – and ultimately loved every minute of it.
“I realized that I really enjoyed the planning process,” Stoltzfus said. “I liked being involved in all the details and making sure everything came together perfectly on the day of the wedding.”
With a background in event planning, Stoltzfus was able to put his own unique spin on wedding planning – and his brides were thrilled. In fact, he found that he loved weddings so much that he started a business planning them full-time!
Now, as owner of Creative Weddings by Michael, Stoltzfus has planned everything from small intimate gatherings to large destination weddings. But no matter the size or scope of the wedding, he always puts his heart into making each one special for his clients.
“The best part of my job is seeing the look on my couples’ faces when they see their wedding come to life exactly as they envisioned it,” Stoltzfus said. “It’s such a rewarding feeling to know that I was able to play a small part in making their dreams come true.”
If you’re not into sports or don’t consider yourself a “traditional groom,” take inspiration from Stoltzfus and get involved in the wedding planning process – you might just find that you love it as much as he does!
What weddings can teach us about love
getting hitched these days is a lot different than it was for our grandparents. For one thing, people are waiting longer to get married. The median age for first marriages is now 27 for women and 29 for men, according to The Knot’s 2018 Real Weddings Study . That’s a significant increase from 22 for women and 24 for men in 1971. And if you think that’s just because people are putting off starting a family, you’d be wrong. A Pew Research Center study from 2016 found that only 20 percent of adults said having children is “one of the most important” things in a successful marriage. That number was just 33 percent in 1990.
So what are young adults looking for in a spouse if not children and traditional gender roles? According to the same Pew Research Center study, many millennials say love is key (69 percent), followed by making a lifelong commitment (48 percent), companionship (46 percent) and finding someone with similar interests (42 percent).
With more people waiting longer to get married, it stands to reason that they’re also taking more time to find the right person. In fact, another Pew Research Center study found that the number of Americans who say they would marry someone without having previously lived together has decreased significantly since 1990, from 35 percent to 14 percent in 2016.
How to find love at a wedding
If you’re single and not into sports, it can be hard to find your perfect match. But one Christiana man has found his soulmate through a love of weddings.
Chris Hegarty, 33, has been to over 100 weddings in the past 10 years, and says he’s found true love at each and every one.
“I just love the feeling of love in the air at weddings,” Hegarty told reporters. “There’s something about seeing two people committing to each other for life that just fills me with happiness.”
Hegarty hasn’t been lucky in love himself, but he says that’s never stopped him from enjoying the weddings of others.
“I know some people might think it’s strange that I’m not in a relationship myself, but I’m perfectly happy going to weddings alone,” he said. “I always have a great time, and I always meet someone new and interesting.”
So if you’re single and looking for love, Hegarty says you should definitely consider crashing a wedding or two. You might just find your perfect match.
Why love is worth searching for
When it comes to finding love, there are a lot of people who think that it’s something that will just happen when the time is right. For Christiana man Jamie Houghton, that wasn’t the case. The 35-year-old had all but given up on finding his perfect match and was content with being single.
That all changed when he met Steph through a mutual friend at a wedding. The two hit it off immediately and have been together ever since.
For Jamie, it just goes to show that love is worth searching for – even if it takes a little longer than expected.
