The two networks merged operations in order to save costs and better compete against larger rivals such as ESPN.

In 2002, the channel was renamed Fox Sports Net South after News Corporation (now 21st Century Fox) acquired a majority stake in HSE. In 2004, the channel began broadcasting under the Fox Sports Net brand after News Corporation completed its acquisition of HSE.

In 2013, Liberty Media (now Altice USA) acquired a majority stake in Bally Sports Networks (then known as Fox Soccer Channel). As part of the deal, Liberty Media also acquired a minority stake in Home Team Sports’ parent company, DirecTV Group. Shortly after the deal was finalized, DirecTV announced that it would rebrand its regional sports networks under the Bally Sports brand.
